FR - Atlas and Barge
This article was published Dec 09, 2018.
The Atlas mine wagon was the first real model I did myself back in April 2017 when I started doing my own drawings. Then I had an intense long period with first swedish, german and then all the RAR vehicles. All those drawings were made in 0 scale, european or british 7mm. All were also intended for Shapeways FUD material. When I bought my own printer in August this year (2018) I quickly realized that all my previous drawings was already history, cause I could not use them on my Dremel... Some I could "salvage" by tweaking them a bit.
This complete new series of Atlas wagons had to be re-drawn from the start, cause I never could get those drawings working on a home printer. Below pictures shows that it is not quite ready yet, the axleboxes look like crap. I will have to place them laying down, which is a pity cause the axle distance is very critical and the design below fixed them exactly together to the correct width.
Last two shows how far the barge got at this date. Not much building left before time for paint. All sides are covered except a bit in the bow. Deck is on and only needs sanding and also a bit finalizing with the front deck above the bow. All these were painted black, which I guess was tar, not really black paint or maybe a home cooked mix of them both. Only things I will print for these are the bollards (or what they are called when placed on a boat and not on the quay).
