YR - LGB Mallet
This article was published May 06, 2022.
It all started when I was at the hospital, right after surgery. I was still there, on observation for a week and David, our oldest son got me into Railroads Online. RO is a great game/visual program you can buy for only 30 euro at Steam. While at the hospital I only had my phone so he hosted it on his computer and I watched him play it through discord. After I got home I ordered it myself and started fiddling with it which is great fun. Specially if a computer in bed is the only thing you have strength for ...
Mallet ? Well, on there discord server is a lot info about this relatively new game (still at beta stage, first arrived late last year). On there future maps to be, is a map on future locos. This Mallet loco from the Uintah Railway was listed and since I always like it, I started googling around for more pictures. Doing so I stumbled on this LGB version on eBay. It had DCC and sound and all that, Smoke was not working it said (but when home today it worked fine -- as long as you add smoke fluid... wonder if the seller tried that ..
) Since the condition looked so fine with original box and instructions, plus a seller in UK with 100% satisfied customers, I did put on a bet and got it in the end. Lucky Me ..
The sound is goosebump like nice, it fills the whole house. When I feel a bit better and the sun is shining, I will put out some tracks on the balcony. When it came home today I was a bit surprised, there is not even tiniest tear on the wheels, as if it only been tested, never really run on a more regular basis.
Why buy such a loco ? Well, first I couldn´t resist .. Always wanted it, but back then it costed more than two locos (which in fact it is.. contains two separate motor bogies). I already bought much more LGB trains than I should have back then, so it never happen. Later LGB stopped selling it.
Last photo shows how the locoshed roof looks now when fully dried. Maybe it isn´t so bad... ? Quite like it myself..
I intend to build a second, larger locoshed for the Mallet, since it does not fit inside. The loco is 67 cm long and the shed only 52 cm inside.
