The BMC project

This project is already an old one, time flies.. Prev. I was determined to work in Hf scale (1:24) on S-scale 22.2mm gauge tracks. I did a lot work on the LGB part, but finding stuff which could get converted to Hf wasn´t easy.

In the end I actually did found some which could get converted, but the motivation had run out before those items arrived. Here I will present what was done, before I decided to go up to ´anything-that-goes-on-32mm-gauge´ scales.... 16mm, 19mm, 7/8in or 1:12 scale.

On the desk back then...

This is a closed project. I might go back doing some Gn15 stuff in the future, but in principal this project is closed. I include it on my site since such a lot energy was put down to it when it was active. I am rather proud of what I did achieve during this period.

History

BMC stands for Borkum Match and Coal Company railway. The scale is Hf or 1:24 on S-scale 22.4mm gauge tracks.

The layout was divided in two levels. On top it was meant to be a point-to-point 21in industrial light railway and below a loop-to-loop LGB rwy. The 20in rwy was planned to be a short line from a small match factory passing a sawmill and coal mine, downto a headline connection there LGB was meant to move them further to a waterfront.

I have been an armchair modeler for many years, with a few exceptions. This was an uncounted restart on really doing something.. The LGB phenomena bite me around 2001 when I at first just ordered 2 ore cars, just for the good looking of them... They reminded me alot of ROCO´s small black H09 cars which I bought in my late teens. Well, you need a loco to pull them, and something more than just a loop and 2 switches... And I was started in LGB scale. LGB gives me sound, smoke, DCC, electrical switches and all, but I did at the same time yearn back to small scratch building projects finished in a couple of weeks. The idea of combining LGB and smaller projects was born.

Content and Scope

My heart beats the hardest for steam and narrow tracks, specially Maine twofoot and military light railways from the first world war. So main story is a match factory which has a small light railway for transporting there products and raw materials from/to nearest major line. There rolling stock is a mix of american Maine like stuff and bought from surplus after the great war.

March 2005

The owner of the factory - Riff Borkum, also owns and runs a small coal mine. These two are the major industries and on top of this, local goods and passengers. My time-period is the happy 20´s and placed somewhere in Maine. I have thought of really modelling WW&F but since I will include so much more, I´m leaning on a fantasy borrowing the looks I like.

I wanted to build a nice looking test layout with just a few switches, which I could use also for train meets.
